This month we feature an inspiring woman each week that are following their creative and entrepreneurial callings in life. This week we'd like to introduce Brisbane-based designer and master creator Jo Klima from The Darling Tree. Grab a quick burst of inspiration from Jo's path of pursuing her own passion.

What is ‘The Darling Tree’ and how did it come to be?

Since it began in 2008, The Darling Tree has been mostly focused on designing awesome branding and websites for many creative businesses around the world. However, this year my business has seen some big shifts into focusing more on creating art, patterns and gorgeous products for other creatively inspired folk, as well as creating other digital offerings and courses that help others infuse their spirit and creativity into their life and business.

What have been the benefits for you in actively pursuing your passion?

It gives me something purposeful and meaningful to focus on each day which keeps me inspired and excited. It’s not easy to let go of what we’ve been taught as the responsible and practical thing to do with our lives, but in doing so I can actually witness my own power in creating my dream life doing exactly what I love to do.

As a passionate entrepreneur, what are some of the biggest challenges you experience?

Because I’m always coming up with new ideas of what I could do it can be difficult to decide which things to focus on, and even when you have, giving that product or idea the time it needs to find some grounding and momentum before moving too quickly onto the next thing does take more patience than I’m used to. I also find it challenging to keep up with marketing my business and other tasks that are often required when my preference would be to design and make art all day!

What is your favourite quote or mantra?

Be that girl who wakes up with purpose and intent. Be that girl who shows up and never gives up. Who believes anything is possible and is willing to work for it. - Lorna Jane Clarkson

What or who influences you?

There are many incredible artists and creators who I’m in awe of. For their amazing artwork and businesses I adore Jai Vasicek, Lisa Congdon, Miranda Skoczek and Anya Brock. And for the merging of art, patterns and fashion I am always inspired by Mara Hoffman, Helen Dealtry and Mister Zimi. On business topics I absolutely love Leonie Dawson and Denise Duffield-Thomas.

What advice could you give to fellow passionistas looking to take the leap to pursue their own personal or creative callings?

You can spend all the time in the world wondering if you should take the chance to follow your dreams or not but the only way you’ll find out it to actually try it and see!

What’s next for The Darling Tree?

Anything is possible! For the remainder of this year I am focusing on creating a few pattern collections to license and working on some larger artworks and commissions. I have a few offerings being created at part of The Cosmic Collective as well as another secret collaboration which you’ll hear more about in 2016. And I’d just love to find more ways to help others tap into their creative potential, through courses as well as intentional products. Lots of fun stuff!
