Many people know you as the energetic, ambitious mum renovator from The Block. What is your passion and how has this experience helped you to follow it?
Ha,ha…yes certainly energetic!…my nickname around the block was VonZipper, as I would be hard to catch when I was on the run and the crew always had to run to keep up, I certainly rarely made it easy for them to find me when I didn't want to be found!
I would have to say my passion is health and wellness….Although renovating on The Block and creating beautiful, original and unique spaces in the home was and is simply the most incredible and challenging experience I have ever put my hand up for, I am a mum with a mission and absolutely love to motivate and inspire from the inside out!
I have found a daily dose of kindness, good coffee made with love, my super smoothie and daily exercise is all the motivation I need to "Live My Passion". Being able to share my fitness formula and journey with other women gives me a great sense of fulfilment. Seeing the shift in their energy, stamina, happiness and strength gives me goosebumps each and every day.
I truly believe that the challenges and tribulations I faced on the block made me realise that if I had the ability to not only achieve but survive the greatest physical and mental challenge I have encountered…that the possibilities to follow could be far greater than I had ever imagined.
How important has remaining true to yourself been in your career and personal life?
If I am to answer this honestly, I would say that remaining true to myself and having integrity in both my personal and business life is taken very seriously, it tells a lot about the person one is.
I do not compromise a relationship to gain higher ground. In business you do need to take control and in some cases become some-what tenacious, I am however a very firm believer in being grateful and conscious of my surroundings and always have great appreciation and admiration to those that assist and take part in my education, development journey and overall wellbeing.
What is your top tip for balancing family and ambition?
To be honest with you, its something that up until recently I was not so good at…it's called "Planning" As a busy mum, speaker, student, leader without a title and motivational coach, balance is key! Without a plan, you will always end up agreeing to far too may projects and places to be!
What is the greatest lesson that being a mum has taught you?
It would have to be "Strength". As a parent, most of us know that we are the greatest and most inspirational role models our child/en can have!. Remember that we all have moments of weaknesses or fear and that it is ok to have these moments as long as we show our child/en how to manage these feelings, get up, dust ourselves off and stay focused on our goals.
When my daughter held my face in the palm of her hands, looking into my eyes the night I returned home from the block after several months away and said "Mummy, I am so proud of you, I love you so much", everything I had worked so incredibly hard for, the challenges, the sleepless nights, all the blood, sweat and tears I shed during my experience on the block, soon become my greatest achievement and proudest moment!.
What advice could you offer mums or mums-to-be either going back to work, just starting out in business, or looking to embark on a new career path whilst juggling children?
Well if I were to use a slogan, it would have to be Nike's "Just Do it" I think going back to the workforce or embarking on a new venture or career ca be extremely daunting, however I have always remembered an affirmation I read of Sir Richard Branson's some time ago and I feel compelled to pay it forward in the hope it will inspire many more to follow;
"If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you're not sure you can do it, say YES - then learn how to do it later."
